A real-time fleet-tracking iOS app built on Firebase, with live driver location, departure alerts and Uber-style driver ratings.
About the project
The truckload company entrusted a challenging task to us. It needed an app that would track its drivers’ movement and send the current data to its customers. Apart from that, they wanted a rating mechanism that would allow them to assess the drivers’ performance.
The challenge
The company fell behind in the competition with logistics and truckload companies, since it didn’t keep up with the times. More and more users of truckload services wanted to track the delivery of their goods in real time, which wasn’t available at that moment. Besides, our client wanted universal metrics that would allow them to rate drivers and allocate bonuses for performance.
The solution
The project was executed from scratch. We built an app with a real-time mode that tracks drivers’ location and sends the data to clients. The solution was based on Firebase Realtime Database. As soon as the drivers turned tracking on, all clients assigned to them received a notification of the drivers’ departure. Apart from that, we implemented an Uber-like rating system that asked clients to leave their drivers a rating (from 0 to 5). Based on the aggregate data, drivers got an average rating that was used to compare the quality of their services.

The result
The application is used extensively in different spheres of life. The truckload company ditched third-party services used beforehand. As a result, they could greatly cut costs of their services and see an immediate uplift in the number of orders and total income. According to end-users’ feedback, they appreciated the ultramodern intuitive design of the app, and admitted using the company’s services more.
